Intensive English Program
International students who wish to improve their English language skills before beginning graduate studies can take advantage of a partnership between JMU and Eastern Mennonite University, which is also located in Harrisonburg, VA. Through this partnership, students can be admitted to JMU with the provision that they first complete the EMU Intensive English Program. The TOEFL exam is not required in this case, and the GRE exam can be postponed until the IEP program is completed.
Procedure:
- Submit an application to JMU, noting that you wish to complete the IEP program at EMU.
- Receive a conditional admission to JMU.
- Apply to the EMU Intensive English Program and be admitted.
(You must read and sign Eastern Mennonite University's Community Lifestyle Commitment) - Receive an I-20 from EMU.
- Complete one to three semesters of Intensive English study at EMU with satisfactory performance (as determined by the EMU-IEP Director).
- Complete the GRE exam with acceptable scores at the end of your last semester at EMU.
- Your JMU admission status may be changed from ‘conditional’ to ‘unconditional’ at this time. A “conditional” status indicates that you will be required to take some preparatory Computer Science classes at JMU in your first year.
- Receive an I-20 from JMU.
- Complete the MS/CS program at JMU.
